PNP denies authorizing Rendon to lead weight loss program

PNP denies authorizing Rendon to lead weight loss program

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has denied authorizing a fitness instructor to lead a weight loss program for the entire organization, clarifying that no such directive came from PNP chief P/Gen. Nicolas Torre III.

In a memorandum dated 21 June, P/MGen. Roderick Augustus Alba, head of the Directorate for Police Community Relations, stated that the fitness activity in question was organized solely by the Police Community Affairs and Development Group (PCADG) and involved only its members — not the entire police force.

The clarification came after fitness vlogger Rendon Labador conducted a weight loss session on 19 June at Camp Crame, which he publicly framed as a full-scale PNP initiative.

“In this regard, PNP personnel are directed to refrain from sharing misleading content. The Chief PNP has not authorized any fitness instructor to primarily lead a weight loss program for the entire PNP,” the memo read.

The PNP urged its social media officers to exercise caution in sharing content, warning that misinformation may cause public confusion.

PNP spokesperson P/BGen. Jean Fajardo added that she was not aware of any formal decision appointing Labador as a fitness coach for the organization. However, she emphasized that the PNP welcomes those willing to support its physical fitness programs.

In a previous social media post, Labador claimed he volunteered to spearhead the PCADG’s 93-day weight loss challenge at no cost, citing admiration for the police force and his late father’s service as a former officer.

This development follows General Torre’s earlier warning that officers who fail to meet fitness standards may be offered a “graceful exit” from service.
