The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced Sunday it has summoned the registered owner and driver of a tricycle after a video showing a naked minor dancing while hanging from the moving vehicle went viral on social media.
Police successfully tracked down all individuals on board the tricycle, including the driver. The information gathered by authorities was used by the LTO to issue a show cause order against both the driver and the registered owner, who are residents of Antipolo City.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II, said the Bajaj Re Compact 4S F Tricycle has been placed under alarm to prevent any transactions, especially since it is registered as a public utility vehicle.
“We also mandated the driver at the time of the incident to surrender the driver’s license before the scheduled hearing on 25 June,” Mendoza said.
The incident gained public attention after a motorist’s video showed the blue tricycle with a naked individual hanging and dancing as the vehicle sped along the road. The individual was later identified as a minor.
Mendoza expressed gratitude to the motorist who captured the video, saying that it served as essential evidence in pursuing those involved.
The show cause order, signed by LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division Chief Renate Melitante, requires the owner and driver to explain why they should not face sanctions over the incident. The driver could face driver’s license revocation for reckless driving and for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. The owner is also facing a penalty for employing a reckless driver.
