Former University of Santo Tomas (UST) mentor Emilio “Kungfu” Reyes will call the shots in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for the first time as he is appointed as the new head coach of San Beda University.
The school made the announcement on Saturday as the Reyes will take over from former Lady Red Spikers coach Edgar Barroga.
Reyes, 44, coached the Golden Tigresses from 2015 to 2025 and led them to the finals of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines women’s volleyball tournament twice in 2019 and 2022.
He will also bring with him his experience as a head coach in the professional scene as he called the shots for the Philippine Army and Chery Tiggo in the Premier Volleyball League.
Reyes’ inclusion will be a big boost for San Beda after a forgettable campaign in the NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Red Spikers finished the season in eighth place with a dismal 4-14 win-loss record.
