The number of Filipinos using Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) surged by an astounding 383 percent, signaling the country’s growing enthusiasm and engagement with digital innovation and AI-driven technologies.

According to Coursera, a leading global online learning platform, its 2025 Global Skills Report revealed that the Philippines recorded a year-over-year (YoY) increase of 383 percent in GenAI-related enrollments. This growth significantly surpasses the Asia-Pacific average of 132 percent and the global average of 195 percent.

The report highlights Filipino learners’ rapid adoption of emerging technologies and reflects the country’s intensifying efforts to build an AI-ready workforce.

Drawing from insights across Coursera’s global community of over 170 million learners, the report tracks emerging skill trends in more than 100 countries. Now in its seventh edition, the 2025 report ranks the Philippines 88th globally in overall skills proficiency and 18th in Asia-Pacific.

Filipino learners currently demonstrate 29 percent proficiency in business, 21 percent in technology, and 17 percent in data science.

In Coursera’s newly introduced AI Maturity Index, the Philippines ranks 60th, signaling growth potential in areas like AI research, innovation, and talent development.

This progress aligns with the national government’s target to upskill one million AI-skilled workers by 2028 as part of its broader digital transformation agenda.

The report also notes that 86 percent of Filipino knowledge workers already use AI in the workplace — a figure that is well above the global average of 75 percent and the Asia-Pacific average of 83 percent.

The surge in GenAI interest is also mirrored in learner behavior on Coursera. Enrollments in AI and Machine Learning courses increased by 307 percent, Curiosity by 74 percent, Customer Service by 12 percent, and Critical Thinking by 10 percent.

Eklavya Bhave, Head of Asia Pacific at Coursera, emphasized the country’s strong momentum:

“AI is a clear priority for employers, and learners are stepping up by acquiring GenAI skills and industry micro-credentials to stay ahead,” she said.

She added:

“From AI strategies to forward-thinking education policies, we’re seeing a strong national commitment to equipping Filipinos with the right mix of technical, business, and human skills. Coursera is proud to support this transformation by partnering across education, industry, and government to build an inclusive, job-ready talent pipeline.”
