University of Santo Tomas (UST) guard Kent Pastrana hopes to improve her skill set in her maiden stint with Gilas Pilipinas Women.
Pastrana said being surrounded by world-class players makes her want to contribute more to the team in any way possible.
With veterans Afril Bernardino, Andrea Tongco, Janine Pontejos and Chack Cabinbin looking uncertain to join due to their military commitments, the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) champion player is ready to step up for the squad.
“They really helped me a lot, especially in learning the system so that I will be able to catch up," Pastrana said.
“For me, I'll do my best and I'll do what I need to do for the team. I’m ready to do my part.”
The 24-year-old Pastrana will have time to adapt to Gilas Women as they compete in the 44th William Jones Cup in Taiwan from 2 to 6 July against Asian teams.
Then, she will join the squad in Shenzhen, China for the FIBA Women's Asia Cup from 13 to 20 July.
Pastrana, a two-time UAAP Mythical Team member, said she wants to adjust her playstyle against bigger and stronger opponents for international competitions.
“I want to improve physically and mentally in my game. I need to learn how to defend against stronger players and help the team,” Pastrana said.
