Private developer groups have expressed full support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s expanded pro-poor housing program as they welcomed the appointment of Jose Ramon P. Aliling as secretary of Human Settlements and Urban Development.
In a dialogue on Friday, Aliling and top Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) officials engaged leaders of the country’s biggest real estate developer organizations in a frank discussion on strengthening their collaboration and revitalizing the administration’s housing program.
Representatives of the Subdivision and Housing Developers Association Inc. (SHDA), Chamber of Real Estate and Builders Associations (CREBA), Organization of Socialized and Economic Housing Developers of the Philippines (OSHDP), and National Real Estate Association (NREA) joined the event and tackled key industry issues, including balanced housing compliance, socialized housing price ceilings, innovative development modalities, and streamlining regulatory processes.
Aliling welcomed the inputs of the developers, emphasizing the urgency of collective action between the government and the private sector.
“Let’s not waste this opportunity. One last push. We still have enough time. Just persevere and we can achieve this,” Aliling said, noting that his appointment came with clear marching orders from the President.
Each developer group expressed strong support for the DHSUD’s direction, offering both feedback and commitments.
Francis Richmond Villegas of SHDA pledged the industry’s commitment to accelerate action.
“We still have three years to revitalize the industry. This is an indication that we are supporting you,” he said.
Demetrio Posadas of CREBA affirmed their full cooperation, citing Aliling’s strong grasp of industry dynamics. “DHSUD is in good hands. We will definitely support your administration so you can achieve a home for every Filipino,” he said.
OSHDP president Christopher Ryan Tan committed the group’s full backing. “What we can give in return is to produce, to produce, and to produce. You can count on us, sir, we are ready to help, you won’t be alone in this,” he said.
