Converge is oozing with confidence after pulling off a shocking 100-97 win over San Miguel Beer in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup last Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

FiberXers guard Schonny Winston said beating the mighty Beermen gave them a huge morale boost heading into their sixth quarterfinal appearance since entering the league in 2022.

Although they have yet to determine their quarterfinal nemesis, Winston said a mouthwatering match-up with the Beermen is something they will gladly take.

“As a team, it shows that we can compete. San Miguel is a very strong team with a strong history. It shows that we can compete with a team like that,” said Winston, who dropped 25 points against the Beermen.

“So, it gives us some motivation and gives us some motivation to continue to push going into the playoffs because we know we can do it and it’s up to us.”

After losing to Rain or Shine twice in the Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals, Converge is determined to finally get over the postseason hump.

With twin towers Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar at the helm, as well as guards Winston, Alec Stockton, JL delos Santos and Rey Suerte, the FiberXers are determined to pull off another upset and reach the semifinals for the first time in franchise history.

Converge head coach Franco Atienza wants his wards to sustain their momentum as they expect teams to make key adjustments entering the quarterfinals.

“These are just eliminations. This is nothing,” Atienza said.
