Filipino travelers will soon lose a budget travel option to Singapore, as the Qantas Group announced it will shut down Singapore-based low-cost carrier Jetstar Asia on 31 July.

Qantas group announced the closure of their operations citing high “rising supplier costs, high airport fees, and intensified competition in the region.”

The decision will affect 16 intra-Asia routes including those between Singapore and cities like Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bangkok, and Manila.

The shutdown will affect 16 intra-Asia routes, including flights between Singapore and cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bangkok, and Manila. Jetstar Asia has been operating from Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport since April 2023.

Flights will continue until July 31 but with a reduced schedule. Passengers with bookings beyond that date will be eligible for full refunds. The airline said affected customers will be contacted if their flights are changed.

Qantas clarified that the closure will not affect flights operated by Jetstar Airways between Australia and other countries, nor Jetstar Japan services.

Thirteen affected mid-life A320 aircraft will be redeployed to core markets in Australia and New Zealand. Jetstar Asia is projected to post a USD 35 million loss this financial year. Qantas estimates total financial impacts—including redundancy payouts, restructuring expenses, and asset write-downs—at USD 175 million through 2025 and 2026.
