The global activewear industry has experienced robust growth over the years.

According to Transparency Market Research in 2022, the global activewear market was valued at US$412.3 billion and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.3 percent from 2023 to 2031, reaching US$714.0 billion by the end of 2031.

Activewear is a type of clothing that people normally wear when doing sports or exercising. It allows one to move freely, even during strenuous movements. Activewear is typically made from nylon, spandex, cotton, polyester and other synthetic materials.

Nowadays, people are improvising with activewear. Initially reserved for yoga classes, tank tops and leggings are now worn by women for a casual look. The polo shirt, as well as hoodies, has become a versatile wardrobe staple for men.

Beyond fashion

Whether you realize it or not, wearing appropriate activewear affects your health.

For example, compression garments such as leggings improve blood circulation and reduce muscle pain. “Compression leggings are designed to boost blood flow to your lower body muscles during exercise, delivering more oxygen where it’s needed,” orthopedic surgeon Dr. Natasha Trentacosta said.

They say that when you look good, you feel good. That’s essentially true with activewear. The right clothes can boost your confidence, helping you feel like you can conquer any challenge for the day. There’s that feeling of being empowered, that you can do anything that comes your way.

In addition to physical benefits, wearing active clothes can positively impact your well-being.

Additionally, athleisure promotes a holistic approach to wellness by encouraging an active lifestyle. When somebody feels comfortable and fashionable in their activewear, the chances are they are more likely to incorporate physical activities into their routine. Think of your workout fits as your daily reminders to always exercise.

Local and foreign brands have been popping up; in other words, activewear is here to stay. As Coco Chanel has said, “Fashion fades, only style remains.” And athleisure is fashion now.
