President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Wednesday reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to strengthening their bilateral ties and working together to uphold peace and stability in Southeast Asia.

During their bilateral meeting at Malacañang, Marcos emphasized the importance of their continued cooperation in key areas such as health, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, renewable energy, environmental protection, and people-to-people exchanges.

“These are vital and priority sectors for the development of our countries and for the region,” Marcos said in his welcome remarks.

He lauded the Philippines and Singapore’s 56-year relationship, noting how it has “not only endured but thrived,” extending beyond government partnerships to include growing exchanges in business, education, and civil service.

“The Philippines sees Singapore as a trusted neighbor, a dependable friend, and a reliable partner,” Marcos said, adding that both countries must chart a path of “enduring collaboration with meaningful benefits” amid a rapidly changing global landscape.

Wong, on his first bilateral visit since being reappointed Prime Minister following Singapore’s elections last May, echoed Marcos’s sentiments and pledged to further deepen the relationship between the two nations.

“It’s a vibrant and enduring partnership developed over many decades. And amidst this changing and more challenging geopolitical environment, it is even more important that we stand together,” Wong said.

The two leaders, representing founding members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), agreed to continue working closely together to maintain regional peace and security.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, which aims to build a resilient, innovative, and people-centered Southeast Asia.

“Amid these uncertainties, we have set out a fresh direction for the region. I look forward to working with you and other members of ASEAN in turning this vision into a reality,” Marcos said.

The President also highlighted recent bilateral initiatives, including the launch of a Digital Leadership Program in partnership with Singapore aimed at equipping thousands of Filipino civil servants with digital governance skills.

In closing, Marcos congratulated Singapore on its upcoming 60th year of independence in August, expressing optimism for an even deeper collaboration in pursuit of shared regional goals and national aspirations.
