Meralco will be parading three seasoned reinforcements in a bid to come up with a strong performance in the FIBA Basketball Champions League (BCL) Asia in Saudi Arabia from 7 to 13 June.
The Bolts tapped journeymen John Egbunu, Jordon Varnado, Glynn Watson Jr. as imports in the country’s return to the prestigious continental tourney that was used to be known as the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.
The three imports will be joined by Meralco mainstays in Chris Newsome, Bong Quinto, Cliff Hodge, Raymond Almazan, Aaron Black, Chris Banchero, Norbert Torres, Alvin Pasaol and rookie CJ Cansino.
The Bolds landed in Group B together with FIBA WASL-Gulf League champions Shabab Al Ahli of the United Arab Emirates and Japan B.League champions Utsunomiya Brex.
But with three imports, the Filipino side will have a fighting chance.
The 6-foot-11 Egbunu, for one, will be the Bolts’ main man inside the paint as he brings solid defensive presence gained in his long overseas stint with stops in South Korea, Italy, Israel. Turkey, France, China and Spain.
The 28-year-old Nigerian averaged 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds for Turkish side Gaziantep in the FIBA Europe Cup, making him a legitimate threat inside the paint.
