The Philippine national rowing team emerged with two medals in the 66th International Ratzeburg Regatta in Germany recently.
Southeast Asian (SEA) Games bronze medalists Edgar Ilas and Zuriel Sumintac kicked off their European tour with a silver medal in the men’s pairs lightweight event of this prestigious international event.
On the other hand, Kristine Paraon and Feiza Lenton clinched the women’s doubles sculls bronze medal to make it a double treat for Filipino rowers.
Under the guidance of foreign coach Benedikt Schwarz, the Filipinos competed against rowers from Sweden, Austria, Holland, Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark and the Ratzeburg Rowing Club.
Currently, the Filipino rowers are in Hannover, Germany for a training camp that started last Sunday and will end on 12 June. Then, they will go to Bled, Slovenia for a one-week training camp that will run from 15 to 22 June.
The next competition for the Filipino rowers will be the I Feel Slovenia Bled International Regatta from 12 to 15 June and the Regatta Amsterdam in the Netherlands from 27 to 29 June.
Also joining the camp are Tokyo Olympics veteran Cris Nievarez, Van Maxilom and Rynjie Peñaredondo.
