Barangay Ginebra guard LA Tenorio remains clueless on his return to Barangay Ginebra in the Philippine Cup of the Philippine Basketball Association.
After leading Gilas Pilipinas Youth to the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers title last Friday in Pampanga, the 40-year-old playmaker said that he will take a breather following their grueling campaign.
He, however, stressed that he couldn’t wait to return to his playmaking chores as Ginebra intensifies its hunt for the all-Filipino title.
“I just want to relax but get back to Ginebra too because I have been missing practices and games,” said Tenorio, who was listed as an unrestricted free agent to focus on his coaching duties with Gilas Youth.
“I just got here last Saturday so there are no plans for me to return yet. This week, I won’t be able to go to practice because I have to go to Singapore for a check-up so I’ll be out for next week.”
With Ginebra already in the quarterfinals with a 6-3 win-loss record and with two games left in its schedule, Tenorio can focus on preparing his body the best way possible and can rejoin the squad in the postseason.
The Kings will face the grand slam-seeking TNT on Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila before facing Rain or Shine on 15 June at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Ginebra remains in good hands with point guards Scottie Thompson, RJ Abarrientos and Maverick Ahanmisi sharing the playmaking duties while Tenorio was absent for national team duty.
Tenorio said he will sit down with head coach Tim Cone after his return from Singapore to discuss both his stint with Ginebra and Gilas Youth.
“After my check-up, we will discuss our plans,” said Tenorio, who was at the sidelines when the Kings defeated Magnolia, 85-81, last Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“I still don’t know what’s going to happen to the juniors. It all depends on their schedule.”
