Filipino-British golfer Enrique Dimayuga turned heads in his professional debut, firing a three-under-par 69 in the opening round of the Challenge de Cádiz at Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri in Cádiz, Andalucía, Spain on Thursday.
Competing on the Challenge Tour — the developmental circuit just below the DP World Tour — Dimayuga showed poise well beyond his years. The 23-year-old eagled the par-five 11th, a highlight of a round that also featured four birdies and three bogeys, placing him in a tie for seventh alongside James Ashfield of Wales and South Africa’s JC Ritchie.
Starting his round confidently, Dimayuga displayed a balanced mix of aggressive play and steady nerves, bouncing back from mistakes and capitalizing on scoring opportunities. His eagle on 11, in particular, was a standout moment — marking the point where he surged up the leaderboard.
Spain’s Quim Vidal emerged as the early solo leader with a sizzling seven-under 65, but for Dimayuga, the day was more about making a strong first impression in the pro ranks.
The former amateur standout, who has Filipino and British roots, has long been seen as a rising talent. His transition to the professional level was eagerly anticipated, and his debut round confirmed the promise he showed as a top collegiate and amateur player.
With three rounds still to play, Dimayuga has put himself in a solid position to contend and gain valuable experience as he begins his journey in professional golf.
