The trough, or the extension of the low-pressure area located over the West Philippine Sea is expected to bring light to moderate rains over Palawan, Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro.
Based on the 5 p.m. weather bulletin issued by PAGASA on Wednesday, the low-pressure area was last spotted near the coast of Vietnam, as it has an ‘unlikely’ chance of developing into a tropical depression.
For Thursday, the state weather bureau said that there will be expected rain showers over Extreme Northern Luzon and Cagayan due to the frontal system.
“We are expecting a new frontal system that will affect Extreme Northern Luzon, in which its cloud-bearing rains might reach the Cagayan area,” PAGASA Weather Specialist Ana Clauren-Jorda said.
She added that rain showers might also be experienced in Ilocos Norte due to the southwesterly wind flow which will also be triggered by the frontal system.
Due to the frontal system, moderate to rough sea conditions are expected in the seaboards of Northern Luzon.
Fair and humid weather is expected to prevail over the rest of the country, as the easterlies remain the dominant weather system, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
At least 15 areas throughout the country are forecasted to experience danger-levels heat index on Thursday.
The highest expected heat index is 44ºC, which is expected in Masbate City.
Meanwhile, a 43ºC heat index is forecasted over Aparri and Tuguegarao in Cagayan; Echague in Isabela, and Butuan City in Agusan Del Norte.
