Christian “The Bomb” Araneta is setting up camp in Tokyo — site of his world title crack next month — almost three weeks before the fight.
The heavy-handed Araneta, holder of a 25-2 win-loss record with 20 knockouts, battles Japan-based Thanomsak Simsri of Thailand on 19 June the Ota City General Gymnasium.
They will slug it out for the vacant International Boxing Federation light-flyweight throne.
Araneta and his team, spearheaded by chief trainer Jinggoy Junco of Omega Boxing Gym of Cebu City, will fly to the Japanese capital this Saturday.
Simsri enters the ring with a 38-1 slate with 34 knockouts.
The IBF 108-pound throne was declared vacant after Masamichi Yabuki of Japan decided to go up in weight.
Araneta will be fighting for the first time in six months while Simsri’s last outing was in late-February.
The Cebu puncher will be bidding to join minimumweights Melvin Jerusalem and Pedro Taduran as the country’s current world champions.
