The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) is tapping two South Korean firms for projects in New Clark City in Tarlac and Poro Point in La Union.
BCDA president and chief executive officer Joshua Bingcang and officer-in-charge senior vice president Mark Torres met with officials of Moon Engineering Co. Ltd., a South Korean engineering and consulting firm, on 18 March to discuss conducting a feasibility study on the upgrade of the San Fernando Airport in the Poro Point Freeport Zone.
On its website, Moon Engineering states that it is considered a top ICT (information and communications technology) engineering company with more than 4,000 projects in the sectors of airport, navigation, harbor, railway, smart city, ITS, BMS/BIS, comprehensive control and monitoring center, and EMIS. It provides design and supervision services to its customers.
Also, the BCDA officials met with Jin Systems Co. Ltd. to discuss a possible collaboration to deploy and test smart mobility solutions in New Clark City as part of the 2025 K-City Network Smart Solution Demonstration Project.
On the other hand, Jin Systems, a company based in Jeju, Cheju-do, South Korea, uses location-based spatial information technology to identify customers’ potential needs and offers market-friendly solutions by integrating and converging relevant technologies in the areas of transportation, social welfare, and safety sectors.
Korean tech employed
Bingcang said the future collaborations with the South Korean firms will enable the country to leverage Korean technologies and expertise in the transportation sector and innovative city development.
“They are recognized as leaders in infrastructure and smart city development. These potential partnerships will be pivotal in advancing infrastructure and integrating cutting-edge technologies in New Clark City and Poro Point,” Bingcang said.
San Fernando Airport, managed by Poro Point Management Corp., has a limited operational capacity, primarily serving chartered flights and flying schools. The proposed upgrade aims to improve the airport’s capacity, enabling it to accommodate more commercial flights.
