Alex Eala suffered an early exit in her French Open main draw debut after a 0-6, 6-2, 3-6 loss against Emiliana Arango of Colombia in the first round Sunday evening (Manila time) in Paris.
Eala, 20, fought for one hour and 46 minutes and had to but fell short of advancing past the second round.
The 24-year-old Arango also re-asserted her mastery over Eala after winning their match up in last year's Miami Open qualifiers, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Despite the loss, Eala is still poised to improve her Women's Tennis Association rankings after joining the second Grand Slam of the year.
Eala is currently ranked No. 69 in the WTA, her highest since becoming a professional tennis player in 2020.
