CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Four Army soldiers were wounded in the line of duty during a firefight with remnants of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the hinterlands of Barangay Hagpa, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon.
The clash erupted during an operation launched by the 28th Infantry Battalion after residents reported extortion activity in the area. Acting swiftly, troops engaged the armed group and disrupted their plans, forcing the rebels to flee.
“Tactical Operations Group 10 and medical teams were immediately deployed to provide combat casualty care and evacuate the wounded using Black Hawk helicopters,” said Maj. Joe Patrick Martinez, spokesperson of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division (4ID), in an interview with DAILY TRIBUNE.
The day after the encounter, the 4ID paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the wounded soldiers.
“Despite their injuries, these soldiers upheld the highest standards of duty, resilience and patriotism,” said 4ID Commander Major General Michele Anayron Jr., commending their courage during the operation.
“These remaining terrorists continue to threaten peace and the safety of communities in Bukidnon and nearby areas. Our troops are committed to ending this decades-long threat,” he added.
Anayron assured the public that the wounded soldiers are receiving the best possible medical care, and that the Armed Forces are also extending support to their families.
“We ask the public to keep our soldiers in their prayers. Their road to recovery may take time, but their heroism will always stand as an inspiration to the nation,” Anayron said.
Pursuit operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing rebels and neutralize the remaining threat in the area.
