OSAKA, Japan — Pedro Taduran took a break a few days ago and went on a short shopping trip to look for a toy gun.
Apparently, his two-year-old Gaven has been showing a fondness for toy guns.
Along with his wife Joy, the reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) minimumweight champion, went around Dotonbori wanting to purchase one.
“Lately, he loves playing with toy guns so I bought him one,” said Taduran, who risks his IBF 105-pound crown against Ginjiro Shigeoka on Saturday at the INTEX Osaka.
But little Gaven will be surprised to see that the gun his dad bought wont fire plastic or rubber bullets.
Nor would it produce a crackling noise.
“It’s a water gun and I called him on video call, he asked me to bring it to him immediately,” Taduran said smiling.
The husband-and-wife tandem had to leave Gaven to the care of in-laws in Bicol while outside the country attempting to ensure a bright future for their cuddly son.
When they get back to Manila on Sunday afternoon, Taduran will not only bring with him the water gun but perhaps more.
“There would be more toys and stuff for him,” stressed the Albay-born banger.
As for him and wife, the plan is to finally buy a property in Cabuyao, Laguna that they had been eyeing since last year.
“It is not that far from the place we are renting. I was supposed to acquire it last year but my fight got canceled so I had to call the deal off.”
Taduran was set to defend against Chinese Zhu Dianxing on Jeju Island but the Vietnam-based Korean promoter encountered financial problems in the final weeks leading to the 23 November date and was forced to scrap it.
Now that he has finally secured a fight, Taduran is getting to buy that house.
And most probably that water gun in all different shapes, colors and sizes.
