LPA forms over southwestern Palawan

A low-pressure area (LPA) was formed over the southwestern portion of Palawan on Monday afternoon.
Based on the 3 p.m. advisory issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, the LPA was last spotted at 200 kilometers, west south west of Aborlan, Palawan.
It has an “unlikely” chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.
According to the Tropical Cyclone (TC)-Threat Potential, a tropical-cyclone-like vortex (TCLV) is expected to move over Palawan, and the West Philippine Sea from 19 to 25 May.
Despite the formation, the low-pressure area is expected to remain over the West Philippine Sea, and will eventually move away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
With the formation of the LPA, which is also embedded with the intertropical convergence zone, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Palawan and Mindanao, which could cause possible flash floods and landslides.
The easterlies are also expected to bring scattered rains over Eastern Samar, Leyte and Southern Leyte.
In Luzon, and the remaining parts of the country, the easterlies will also bring dry, humid weather.
The highest heat index for Tuesday is forecasted over Aparri, Cagayan with at least 46ºC, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan and Dagupan, Pangasinan with 45ºC.
