John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City is rolling out the red carpet for young talent and families alike, as it hosts back-to-back events organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) this weekend.
On Friday, the spotlight turns to the JGFP Baguio Classic, an 18-hole tournament featuring 40 junior golfers from Baguio and Metro Manila.
Young players will compete across various age divisions, with trophies and bragging rights on the line for the top performers.
The event aims to foster grassroots development in junior golf, especially in cooler highland regions like Baguio, where year-round play is possible.
The action continues on Saturday with a heartwarming and highly anticipated return of the JGFP Parent and Child Tournament. This fun yet competitive team scramble format will see 47 parent-child pairs take to the fairways, highlighting the sport’s family-friendly nature.
First introduced in 2023, the tournament was met with enthusiastic response, but was unfortunately canceled last year due to bad weather.
“We’re thrilled to bring junior golf to Baguio and help create memorable experiences for both kids and parents,” said JGFP president Oliver Gan. “Events like these help build character, sportsmanship, and family bonds through the game of golf.”
With picturesque mountain views and cool weather, John Hay provides the perfect backdrop for a weekend celebrating youth development and family togetherness in Philippine golf.
