PARIS, France (AFP) — France's Martin Couvra clinched his maiden European Tour title on Sunday as a seven-under-par final round saw him power through the field to win the Turkish Open by two shots.
The world No. 247 made nine birdies in a brilliant closing 64 to finish the tournament on 17-under overall, beating Jorge Campillo of Spain and China's Li Haotong into a tie for second.
"It was amazing to win in my first year... it's just a dream," the 22-year-old rookie said.
"I wake up in the morning to win some tournaments and to win early (in my European Tour career) is fantastic so I'm really happy about that."
Couvra had already impressed this season after stepping up from the second-tier Challenge Tour with four previous top-10 finishes.
Overnight leader Brandon Robinson-Thompson struggled to a one-over 72 to end four strokes back in fourth place.
