The Bureau of Immigration (BI) issued a strong warning Sunday to all foreign nationals, reminding them that they are prohibited from participating in any political activity in the country, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure safe and peaceful elections.
BI Commissioner Atty. Joel Anthony Viado stressed that foreign nationals must strictly adhere to the conditions of their stay.
“We welcome foreign visitors to the Philippines, but they must abide by our laws and not meddle in any political process,” Viado said.
The advisory comes ahead of Monday’s midterm elections, during which political engagement is expected to increase throughout the country.
Viado also clarified that foreign nationals are prohibited from joining rallies, campaigns or any political gatherings as such actions could result in deportation, as they violate Philippine immigration policies that bar foreign individuals from involvement in political activities.
He also assured the public that the BI is actively cooperating with election and law enforcement agencies to monitor for potential violations. Foreign nationals found violating these rules may face visa cancellation, blacklisting, and possible deportation.
The public is encouraged to report any irregularities or suspicious activity involving foreign nationals through the bureau’s official Facebook page.
