BALANGA CITY, Bataan — Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) has committed a total of P10 million in engineering scholarships over the next five years through a partnership with the Provincial Government of Bataan.

The initiative was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed this April, under which AboitizPower, through its limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), will allocate P2 million annually to support 200 students from Bataan Peninsula State University - Main Campus and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines - Mariveles.

"We express our deepest gratitude to AboitizPower for their unwavering partnership with our Provincial Government,” said Bataan Governor Joet Garcia. “Through their support, we are getting closer to our dream of building a strong, capable, and progressive Bataeño family — with quality education as the foundation for a brighter future."

The program expands the reach of the province’s “Iskolar ng Bayan” initiative and falls under GMEC and GNPD’s P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. program, specifically under its “E” component, which stands for Elevate Educational Opportunities.

“Our advocacy in education is not new. I’m particularly proud of what they’ve done in AboitizPower – North Luzon for supporting more than 200 scholars so far,” said AboitizPower Transition Business Group COO Celso Caballero. “But these aren’t just numbers on a page, these are stories of transformation. We’ve witnessed firsthand the immense pride, the profound impact of investing in education.”

Since the launch of the program in 2015 by GMEC, and the addition of GNPD in 2023, the companies have supported 206 scholars in total, 50 of whom have graduated.

“Malaking tulong po sa akin yung ‘Iskolar ng Bataan’ kasi natutugunan niya po yung mga tustusin ko since I have a solo parent po. Kaya hindi ko na po kailangan manghingi sa magulang ko, atsaka hindi na po niya kailangan intindihin yung ibang pangangailangan ko,” said Rainiel Salandanan, a current scholar from Bataan Peninsula State University.

("'The Iskolar ng Bataan' program is a big help to me because it covers my expenses, especially since I’m being raised by a solo parent. I no longer have to ask my parent for money, and they don’t have to worry about my other needs anymore.")

AboitizPower, one of the country’s largest power producers with over 50 facilities nationwide, continues to push forward its advocacy for education as part of its broader mission of “Transforming Energy for a Better World.”
