A member of the House of Representatives representing one of the biggest cities in the south faces multiple criminal charges — including human trafficking, attempted murder, grave threats and physical injuries.
A businessman filed a complaint over a violent drunken altercation that took place inside a posh bar in Barangay Obrero in the early hours of 23 February.
The complaint was lodged by a resident of Panacan, Davao City, who submitted a sworn statement to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Office of the City Prosecutor.
The charges are docketed as XVT-INV-25E-00102 and include violations of Article 265 (Less Serious Physical Injuries) and Article 282 (Grave Threats) of the Revised Penal Code.
The complainant claimed that the congressman physically assaulted and attempted to stab him with a knife inside a bar following a dispute involving payment to a group of women the solon had allegedly arranged for for a private gathering.
According to the complaint, the legislator asked for “the six prettiest girls he could find” to be taken to a house where several Chinese businessmen were drinking.
The complainant arrived around 8 p.m. with three women; two more arrived 30 minutes later. The group later moved to the bar to continue their party.
The violence allegedly erupted after a bodyguard of the congressman was not given a companion and another woman complained about receiving only ₱1,000, far less than the ₱13,000 she claimed she was promised.
Enraged over the situation, the House member allegedly pushed the complainant down a flight of stairs and proceeded to beat him.
“He cursed me, punched, kicked and headbutted me repeatedly while shouting that he would kill me,” the litigant said. “He used a knife to stab at my side and ordered his bodyguards to lock the doors and turn off the CCTV.”
The brutal assault reportedly lasted for nearly two hours. “He handed me ₱1,000 for every punch, slap, and kick, mocking me as he did so,” the victim added.
The legislator then left afterwards with one of the women and warned the complainant to settle the payment or face further harm.
Submitted to prosecutors was what the complainant claimed was corroborating CCTV footage from the bar, part of which allegedly shows the lawmaker wielding a knife and confronting him.
The video has gone viral on social media.
