Golfers down south have a new playground.

The Teak Wood Driving Range formally started swinging, making it a go-to venue not just for serious golfers who are trying to lower their scores but also for casual players who are out to enjoy the company of their families and friends.

Designed by the son of National Artist Leandro Locsin Sr., the 30-bay facility located at the Cecilia Araneta Parkway in Barangay Biñan in Biñan, Laguna, offers unique challenges.

It is a wide-open field with gently rolling terrain that features a cluster of teak trees at the end of its 350-yard range. The area is now being developed into a trail hiking destination, as the Yulo family of Canlubang shifts its focus toward nature preservation — while still ensuring that the facility maintains top-tier standards.

“We’re blending in sports and nature,” said Felix Yulo, who oversees the operation of both Teak Wood and nearby Canlubang Golf and Country Club.

“Our architect, Andy Locsin, said ‘We have to do it properly.’ That’s why he designed this facility not just for serious golfers but also for players who want to play while hanging out with their friends and families.”

But at the heart of the facility is the Golfworx Learning Center, a three-bay area managed by former national team coach Abe Rosal with the help of the teaching pros accredited by the National Golf Association of the Philippines.

“This is where serious golfers can harness their games under the guidance of our experienced coaches,” Yulo added, showing what he branded as the “man cave” of Rosal, who brings in more than 40 years of experience as a banker, professional golfer, national team member, coach and golf administrator.

Aside from the driving range and learning center, the facility also has a resto-bar that offers the best dishes that the island of Negros can offer.

The 19th Tee Bar & Hacienda Comfort Food has food choices that will transport you back to when Bacolod City and its neighboring towns were still regarded as the country’s best-kept secret among culinary enthusiasts.

The facility also boasts spacious parking, two pro shops, and soon, a hilltop spa — designed as a serene retreat where players can unwind after a long day on the course.

The driving range is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with rates set at P400 per hour for unlimited golf ball use — no membership required.
