Globe Telecom Inc. is reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate responsibility, stepping up efforts to combat climate change and protect biodiversity nationwide.
In conjunction with this year's Earth Hour, the telecommunications giant urged individuals, businesses, schools, and offices to join the global movement by turning off non-essential lights for one hour. Globe also encouraged the adoption of sustainable habits in daily life.
Beyond the symbolic Earth Hour switch-off, Globe is promoting energy-saving practices such as unplugging unused appliances and devices and opting for stairs over elevators.
The company highlighted its ongoing climate initiatives, which include transitioning high-energy consumption facilities to renewable energy, investing in energy-efficient network technologies, and utilizing electric vehicles for employee transportation.
"Protecting the environment requires consistent action and collaboration," said Yoly Crisanto, Globe's Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer. "Through our climate and other environmental programs and partnerships, we are making sustainability more accessible to communities and empowering individuals to make a positive impact."
In a move to support a climate-resilient future, Globe has pledged its support to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' (DENR) "Forests for Life: 5M Trees by 2028" initiative.
The program aims to rehabilitate degraded forest areas in Ilocos Norte, Rizal, Leyte, Bataan, Bukidnon, and Lanao del Norte. Globe will contribute through reforestation efforts, community engagement, and other forms of assistance to ensure the program's success.
Globe's environmental sustainability priorities are centered on reducing greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain. The company also stated its continued openness to new partnerships with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the public to accelerate progress toward environmental goals.
It also stressed that safeguarding the planet is a shared responsibility and believes that a greener, more sustainable Philippines is achievable through sustained collaboration and active participation.
