At a press conference shortly after he arrived in Davao, Kuya Choi reintroduced the Kaunlad Pinoy (#133) movement to the local media, marking the group’s first public engagement in the city.

The event, attended by journalists, civic leaders, and community organizations, served as a platform for Kuya Choi to share what Kaunlad Pinoy stands for — and why it’s not your typical political group.

“Kaunlad Pinoy is not a dynasty. We’re not a political machine,” he said. “We’re a movement made up of everyday workers, professionals, entrepreneurs, and advocates — all driven by one simple idea: to help.”

He talked about the group’s work over the years —supporting local entrepreneurs with capital and training, visiting public markets, and empowering cooperatives. All of it, he said, is part of their mission to help Filipinos build and sustain their own livelihoods.

“What sets us apart is that we don’t just show up during elections,” Kuya Choi added. “We’ve been walking with people for years — side by side, in markets, in workshops. Kaunlad Pinoy didn’t grow from slogans. It grew from action.”

When asked about plans for Davao and the rest of Mindanao, he emphasized the need for regional equity in national development.

“Metro Manila can’t carry the country on its own. Real strength comes from the success of every region. And Davao — Mindanao — is more than ready,” he said. “Kaunlad Pinoy is here to support that growth — sustainably, inclusively and without political strings attached.”

He wrapped up the press conference with an open invitation to the public:

“Don’t see us as candidates. See us as partners in progress.”
