British Chamber: PPP, infra growth drivers

British Chamber: PPP, infra growth drivers
Published on

As part of its Trade and Connect series, the British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP) will host an event titled “Public-Private Partnerships in Action: Transforming Infrastructure and Services” on 29 April 2025 at 4 p.m., at the Makati Commerce Tower. The event is held in partnership with Colliers as the venue partner and Daily Tribune as a media partner.

Among the confirmed speakers are Hon. Maricar Bautista, Transportation Spokesperson for Business Infrastructure at the Department of Transportation, and Hon. Ma. Cynthia C. Hernandez, Executive Director of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center.

Implementation of new PPP code

As of March 2025, the Philippines reported 176 projects in the pipeline, valued at P2.60 trillion. To sustain this progress, implementing the new PPP Code remains vital in strengthening the investment environment and attracting domestic and international investors.

National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan also noted that, “Our discussions also underscored the importance of innovative financing solutions. With concessional loans becoming less accessible, we recognize that Public-Private Partnerships will play a greater role in infrastructure development.”

Strong infra needed

Similarly, BCCP Executive Chairman Chris Nelson previously said, “The Philippines needs strong infrastructure to sustain 6 percent GDP growth, and UK investors are eager to support key projects.”

The recent inaugural UK-Philippines Joint Economic and Trade Committee meeting also underscored a government-to-government Financing Framework Partnership aimed at advancing infrastructure development programs and the formation of an Infrastructure Sectoral Working Group.

These developments are expected to further accelerate the country’s economic growth and reinforce the growing trade between the UK and the Philippines.
