The future of the San Sebastian College looks “golden” after it secured the commitments of the Gomez de Liaño brothers — Jordi and Jaime — on Tuesday.
The additions of the Gomez del Liaño brothers bode well to the Golden Stags’ planned massive buildup as they intend make a good run in the coming National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 101.
The team management, headed by Jax and Eds Chua, Bernard Yang and head coach Rob Labagala, expressed gratitude to the Gomez de Liaño family for entrusting the two promising players under its three-year program.
Both standing at 6-foot-5, the Gomez de Liaño brothers are expected to provide the Golden Stags the needed ceiling in order to contend against the likes of reigning champion Mapua University, San Beda University, Letran College, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta and Lyceum of the Philippines University.
“The team is slowly shaping up,” Yang, a former manager of Hapee Toothpaste in the defunct Philippine Basketball League, said in a statement.
San Sebastian had earlier announced the recruitment of a talented guard Jevy Ponce Hinoguin.
Yang said the team is hopeful to lure more blue chip players to make the Golden Stags formidable, one that can go deep in the coming season.
“We’re still recruiting one or two future stars,” Yang added.
This marks the second time the Gomez de Liaño siblings would be playing for one team after older brothers Juan and Javi suited up for University of the Philippines in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines several years ago.
Having played for University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo de Manila University, Jordi, 22, will have to wait for another year before he can don the red and gold jerseys, while Jaime, 18, is already eligible to play after completing his high school years recently at University of the Philippines Integrated School.
