President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the military to maintain peace and order across the country during the election season.

In a speech at the Philippine Army’s 6th Infantry Division on Friday at Camp BGen. Gonzalo H. Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, Marcos emphasized that the military’s presence and visibility are crucial for ensuring security.

He highlighted that domestic stability, particularly in Mindanao, has been achieved through the government’s peace initiatives.

“I’m happy to report that we are in the process of transitioning internal security responsibilities from the Armed Forces of the Philippines back to the Philippine National Police,” Marcos said, adding that the PNP is now capable of addressing the remaining insurgency issues in the country.

The President commended the 6th Infantry Division for their efforts in promoting peace in the region, including assisting former rebels in reintegrating into society.

Army leaders, including Lieutenant General Antonio G. Nafarrete, Commander of the Western Mindanao Command, and Major General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division, presented over 1,000 firearms, small arms, and light weapons to the President. These weapons were captured, confiscated, or surrendered from 2024 to 10 April.
