Alternergy Holdings Corp., through its subsidiary Alabat Wind Power Corp. (AWPC), has received the first two 8 megawatts (MW) wind turbines for its Alabat Wind Project in Quezon Province.

The turbines, the largest to be installed in the Philippines, were delivered by an ocean barge to the project site on Alabat Island last week, the company disclosed in a stock exchange filing on Tuesday.

“The first shipment of the country’s largest wind turbine to date has arrived on Alabat Island, marking a significant milestone for the Alabat Wind Project,” said Gerry Magbanua, president of Alternergy and AWPC.

“The 8 MW wind turbine will efficiently harness the province’s rich wind resources, supporting Quezon Province’s accelerated energy transition goals while minimizing environmental impact.”

Manufactured by Envision Energy, each turbine features 90-meter-long blades, giving a total wingspan of 182 meters. When fully assembled, the towers will reach 195 meters in height, roughly equivalent to a 50-story building.

The Alabat Wind Project, located along the Pacific Ocean coastline, will consist of eight turbines and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. It is set to be the first wind project under the Department of Energy's 2nd Green Energy Auction Program.

The Alabat Wind Project is one of five renewable energy initiatives Alternergy is developing to achieve its 500 MW capacity target by 2026.
