Citing “dismal performance” in bar examinations, failure to meet curriculum and academic standards, and deficiencies in facilities, the Legal Education Board (LEB) has ordered the closure of the University of Manila (UM) College of Law.
In a statement released Monday, the LEB said the law school had been notified of the closure order effective Academic Year 2024-2025 on 5 June 2024.
However, the LEB said it received information that the university continues to accept enrollees, prompting the public notice to warn that the LEB does not recognize enrollment in the institution.
“Notice is hereby given that the Legal Education Board (LEB) has ordered the closure of the University of Manila College of Law, effective Academic Year 2024-2025, pursuant to LEB Resolution No. 217-14,” the statement read.
The LEB said the decision followed a thorough evaluation of the law school’s compliance with legal education standards and regulatory requirements.
