The Aboitiz Foundation has partnered with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to expand access to education and boost workforce readiness across the Philippines.

Under the agreement signed by Aboitiz Group President and CEO Sabin Aboitiz and Education Secretary Sonny Angara, the foundation will provide solar power and internet connectivity to 300 off-grid public schools nationwide through its flagship Aurora PH program. The partnership aims to improve digital inclusion in underserved areas and support DepEd’s efforts to modernize learning environments.

“This is not a short-term donation. It’s a sustainable, scalable solution — one that supports DepEd’s strategic goals, aligns with global development priorities, and reflects the Aboitiz Group’s commitment to advancing education, innovation, and inclusive growth,” Aboitiz said.

For the school year 2025–2026, 11 pilot schools in Bataan, Benguet, Zambales, Cebu, and Davao City will be the first to receive solar infrastructure, internet access, and digital learning tools. Teachers and staff will also undergo training to help them maintain the equipment and integrate technology into their classrooms.

Education Secretary Angara welcomed the partnership, saying it goes beyond providing basic infrastructure.

“Beyond providing electricity, powering schools involves empowering educators and engaging students through modern learning tools,” said Angara. “We are grateful for this collaboration with Aboitiz Foundation, which will have a lasting impact on our education system.”

In a separate initiative, the foundation also signed an agreement with TESDA to launch a Virtual Assistant Training Program for women. The program will train 500 participants in Level II Virtual Assistant Services, equipping them with essential digital skills for remote work in areas such as AI, e-commerce, digital marketing, and data analytics.

“By equipping women with critical skills in emerging industries such as AI, data analytics, e-commerce and digital marketing, we’re not just helping them secure jobs. We are also empowering them to become leaders in the workplace and their communities,” said Aboitiz Foundation President Ginggay Hontiveros Malvar.

TESDA Director General Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez emphasized the value of the training in bridging the gap between technical education and workforce demands, particularly in the digital sector.

“This initiative will bridge the gap between technical vocational education and industry needs, providing women in grassroots communities with real employment opportunities through remote work,” he said. “Through partnerships like this, we hope to empower more Filipinos with the skills to succeed in the digital economy.”

The training program is part of Elevate AIDA, Aboitiz Foundation’s broader initiative to train 300,000 women in digital literacy and emerging technology skills.

The partnerships are part of the foundation’s continued push to create inclusive opportunities for Filipinos through innovation, sustainable development, and education-focused programs.
