Senatorial candidate and Makati Mayor Abby Binay gained the support of major political figures in Mindanao over the weekend as she campaigned across Zamboanga Peninsula and the Caraga Region.
Binay was formally endorsed by Zamboanga del Sur Governor Victor Yu during her visit to Pagadian City on Saturday. Mayor Macario Tingson of Tukuran also expressed his support for Binay’s Senate run.
In Dipolog City, Binay joined the Kuyog Ta! Zamboanga del Norte Grand Proclamation Rally, where she received the formal endorsement of Dipolog City Mayor and gubernatorial candidate Darel Dexter Uy. Binay was also welcomed by local officials and supporters during a motorcade led by Uy and his party.
On Sunday, Binay traveled to Butuan City in the Caraga Region, where she was endorsed by 1st District Representative Joboy Aquino. The endorsement took place during a meet-and-greet with local officials from Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur, including barangay captains, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, and municipal mayors.
In her remarks, Binay assured local leaders that she will be a strong voice for local governments in the Senate and a committed partner in empowering barangays and LGUs nationwide.
She also reiterated her top legislative priorities: the provision of free maintenance medicines, stronger early childhood education programs, and tax-free overtime pay, bonuses, and incentives for both government and private sector workers. Binay also pledged to push for key amendments to the 1991 Local Government Code to enhance grassroots governance and promote inclusive development.
