As the campaign period begins for local candidates, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminded aspirants to follow campaign rules.

The campaign period for the local position starts on Friday, 28 March.

"Tandaan lang, lagi po tayong tatalima sa ipinag-uutos ng Comelec. Wag pasaway (Remember, always follow what the Comelec says. Don't be stubborn)," Comelec Chairperson George Garcia told reporters.

"'Wag maglalagay ng campaign materials kung saan-saan. Sa common poster areas, 2x2 ang sizes. Sa private properties pwede maglagay pero magpaalam sa may-ari (Don't put up campaign materials everywhere. Only in common poster areas, the sizes are 2z2. In private properties, you can put them up, but you have to inform the owner)," Garcia reminded local bets.

The poll body chief also urged candidates to use biodegradable materials. If they receive a removal notice from Comelec, they are expected to comply immediately.

"Bawal magpakain sa ating pag-iikot, bawal mamigay ng mamahalin na mga kagamitan, lalo pa pera. Either yan ay vote-buying o abuse of state resources (It is forbidden to conduct feeding program during their campaign rounds, it is forbidden to give away expensive gifts, especially money. That is either vote-buying or abuse of state resources)," Garcia stressed.

The Comelec chief said those who violate the election rules will be immediately disqualified.

"Wala na tayong ifs and buts (There will be no ifs and buts)," he added.

He also urged local candidates to respect traffic regulations when conducting campaign motorcades and reminded them that their presence during the distribution of financial assistance to the public is strictly prohibited.

"Walang kandidato o politiko during the distribution ng mga ayuda na yan (There are no candidates or politicians involved in the distribution of those aid distributions)," Garcia said.
