Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala pulled off the biggest upset of her career so far after sweeping past home bet and world No. 5 Madison Keys, 6-4, 6-2, in the round of 32 of the Miami Open at the Hard Rock Stadium early Monday (Manila time).
Eala, 19, played for one hour and 27 minutes before securing the win.
This is the first time the Rafael Nadal Academy graduate defeated someone within the top 10 of the Women's Tennis Association rankings.
Up next for Eala will be world No. 11 Paula Badosa of Spain in the round of 16 on Tuesday.
A win over her Spanish foe could set Eala up against world No. 2 Iga Swiatek of Poland.
