Filipino-American Kristina Knott, the country’s lone bet in the World Athletics Indoor Championship, showcases his wares in Heat 6 of the 60-meter event on Saturday at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park in China.
The event kicks off at 11:15 a.m. with the 29-year-old from Orlando, Florida, attempting to make it to the semifinal round.
Only the top three sprinters per heat and the six fastest times in the elimination will advance.
Knott’s best time so far this year was at 7.32 seconds last February at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico last February.
Amy Hunt of Great Britain looks poised to top Heat 6 after a season-best 7.09 seconds in the European Indoor Championships in the Netherlands where she finished in sixth place.
Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association secretary general Jasper Tanhueco said they are rallying behind Knott as she is the lone representative of the country in the World Indoor Championships.
We are ready to support Knott, especially (Patafa) president Terry Capistrano,” said Tanhueco, who is in Nanjing.
