A shooting victim recounted her miraculous survival in an episode of ABC Network’s “20/20” last 14 March.

Ashley Van Hemert told ABC News correspondent John Quiñones that an intruder shot her and her roommate, Lauren DeWise, multiple times in their Belgrade, Montana home on 6 January 2018.

Van Hemert, then 32, was rushed to the hospital after police found her bleeding from gunshot wounds in the back of her head, back and shoulder. Doctors said a bullet saved her life by plugging a wound and preventing bleeding, ABC News reports.

DeWise, 35, died on the spot from gunshot wounds to her head, chest and shoulder.

A 50-year-old man in Davao City survived being shot by a drinking buddy early this month.

After an investigation, the shooter was identified as DeWise’s estranged husband, Paul. Their teen son confessed to going to his mother’s house with his father and witnessing the shooting, according to ABC News.

Although denying that he was the shooter, Paul was tried and sentenced to 220 years in prison in December 2019.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old man in Davao City survived being shot by a drinking buddy early this month.

The alleged shooter shot the victim with an air gun that fired pellets, GMA Regional TV News quoted Mandug Police Station chief Maj. Rejie Torrita as saying.

The suspected shooter surrendered to police after the incident and was charged with frustrated homicide and violation of the election gun ban.

Torrita told the local news outlet the victim dared his drinking buddy to shoot him, boasting that bullets don’t harm him.

The suspect then went to get the air gun he used to shoot birds and shot the victim.
