The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) has called on the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) to help ensure that the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) are peaceful and orderly.
OPAPRU Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. made the appeal as the MNLF marked its 57th founding anniversary on Tuesday, recognizing the group's contributions to the peace process.
“These elections represent a pivotal step in strengthening democratic governance and solidifying the gains of the peace process,” Galvez said. He emphasized the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remains committed to the full and faithful implementation of the 1996 Final Peace Agreement, a cornerstone of lasting peace and development in the region.
The BARMM’s first parliamentary elections are set for 13 October, marking a crucial milestone in the region’s self-governance. Galvez highlighted ongoing efforts to integrate former MNLF combatants into society, ensuring their active role in the socio-economic progress of the Bangsamoro.
He urged the Bangsamoro people to uphold justice, inclusivity, and mutual respect as they move forward in their shared journey toward sustainable peace and development.
