The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Monday the successful arrest of an overstaying Chinese national in Barangay Batiarao, Anda, Pangasinan.
The operation, conducted by BI intelligence officers in coordination with local law enforcement, reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws and uphold national security. Strengthening border controls and cracking down on undocumented foreign nationals remain key priorities for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The BI team — comprising officers from RIOU1, RIOU3, RIOU-NCR, the BI Main Office, and the Anda Municipal Police Station — arrived at the target site around 7:40 AM. They apprehended 47-year-old Jiang Fangyuan, who was found without a passport or valid immigration documents.
He was immediately taken into custody for overstaying, in violation of Section 37(a)(7) of the Philippine Immigration Act.
BI Commissioner Atty. Joel Anthony Viado emphasized the importance of enforcing immigration rules, stating, "This operation demonstrates our intelligence officers' commitment to protecting our borders and ensuring that overstaying foreign nationals do not remain illegally. Our dedication to upholding the law and supporting the government's fight against illegal migration remains steadfast."
Jiang is currently detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, where he will remain until his deportation.
