Those nagging little aches and pains may come and go. But when the pain becomes persistent, it’s time to take more serious notice.
Body aches can result from various causes: Stress, tiredness, overworked muscles and exercise or even as symptoms of an infection such as the flu.
They could however, be symptoms of possible underlying medical conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia and more.
However, there is no cause for major concern though, if the aches are minor. The human body has the capacity to withstand pain. And as one ages, it is expected that more body pain will manifest in the course of time.
The body can retain fluid. When this happens, swelling is a natural result. Inflammation in any part of the body is an indication that there is a need for lymphatic drainage.
Other reasons for swelling are:
•Thyroid conditions especially hypothyroidism
•Poor nutrition
•Liver and kidney problems
•Stress
•Dehydration
The lymph plays such a pivotal role in detoxifying the body. Known as the garbage collector, its function is to move around inside the body and pick up toxins.
These are then expelled through perspiration (through exercise) and urination. However, the lymphatic systems will function efficiently whenever you move the body. Therefore, the message is clear: do not be sedentary.
Another important factor is the role of hydration in preventing body aches. This is because dehydration can cause muscle stiffness. A lack of water (under eight glasses daily) can cause cramping and arthritic joint pain.
Good sleep is the best preventive measure against pain. On the other hand, sleep deficiency can lead to weakness and eventually, pain. It is only during sleep that the body goes into repair mode. When you deprive your body of good sleep, a person is unable to recuperate. The result are body aches.
There is also the caution about the way one sleeps — on your belly, side-sleeping or upright. Depending on your sleep position, make sure that you alternate during the night. Side-sleepers will need a small pillow tucked in between the knees/legs to support the spine.
Make sure your pillow is not too soft. It must be firm enough to support your neck. Also, it is wise to invest in a good mattress with back support.
One can never underestimate the need for comfort wear. This means no to ill-fitting shoes, tight clothing and uncomfortable clothes. Do not become a fashion victim and sacrifice your comfort levels in order to look good. Your aching feet and pinched waistline will cause you much trouble in the long run.
