Philippine national women’s football team defender Nya Harrison is set to make history after signing with San Diego Wave FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

The deal is a monumental feat for Harrison as she is the first Filipinas player to compete in the top tier of women’s football in the United States.

Other Filipinas who tried to make it to the NWSL were Dominique Randle, who made the preseason roster of Angel City FC, and Kiara Fontanilla, who applied for the 2024 NWSL Draft.

Harrison played for Stanford University from 2021 to 2024 where she played 58 games and scored three goals.

The 22-year-old defender won the Pac-12 women’s soccer championship in 2022.

Harrison was part of the Filipinas’ nine-day training camp at the Mall of Asia Football Pitch last month.

The Filipinas will defend their MSIG Serenity Cup this June in Indonesia and will compete in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers from 23 June to 5 July.
