Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao identified one key factor his team must learn after a semifinals exit in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup.
“I guess, we need to develop a little bit more of the mental toughness in trying to close out games,” Guiao said.
The Elasto Painters received the boot from TNT after a grueling five-game showdown that could’ve gone either way with all results decided by an average of 4.8 points.
“Still a good conference for we’re able to reach the semifinals. The series (ended), 4-1, but we felt that every game we played we had a chance to win. In those five games, we got ourselves in the position to win. It’s just the breaks of the game not coming our way,” Guiao said.
In fact, Rain or Shine had the chance to extend the best-of-seven series only to squander a 13-point third quarter lead by shooting itself in the foot with costly turnovers to absorb a 92-97 defeat in Game 5 last Friday that ended its campaign in the mid-season tournament.
