BINI member Mikha Lim recently took to social media to reflect on the challenges of being a public figure in today’s world.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the Filipina idol expressed her appreciation for those who continue to support and understand her, even as some label them as “problematic.”
“Thank you; it’s nice to know that there are people out there who understand my state of mind right now. It is sad, isn’t it? No matter what we say or do, or even if we say nothing, we can still appear to be the bad guys or ‘problematic,’” Mikha wrote.
She admitted that the constant scrutiny makes her hesitant to speak her mind.
“Some are painted to be such terrible people, when all we’ve been trying to do is spread positivity. This is exactly why I’ve been scared to speak up,” she added.
Despite the challenges, Mikha has learned to accept the realities of being in the public eye.
“To be honest, I’ve been trying to be more active, but I don’t think everything has to be shared on the internet. In the end, to some people, it seems like what they see on social media is all that I am. I guess that’s the consequence of being a public figure, which I’ve come to terms with,” she explained.
The singer also expressed her sadness over the harsh labels given to her loved ones by online critics.
“It hurts when I see my friends being called clout chasers or other terrible things, especially when they’ve given me so much love. Just know that I choose carefully who I surround myself with, and I will not apologize for choosing the people with whom I feel safe, loved, and happy.”
However, despite the negativity, Mikha remains steadfast in her commitment to kindness.
“They say hurt people hurt people, and that’s true. But remember, there are also people who are hurting but choose to be kind because that’s how they want others to treat them. Even when I’m at the peak of my emotions, I will choose not to hurt others, because you do to others what you want them to do to you,” she shared.
She concluded by extending her prayers to everyone, regardless of differences.
“If we don’t see eye to eye, that’s okay. Praying for you all.”
Mikha’s post followed a viral social media comment from a netizen who said they preferred seeing her less active online due to the negativity surrounding social media discussions.
