Filipino travelers top Asia’s sustainability rankings — survey
Published on

A recent survey ranked travelers from the Philippines as the most sustainability-conscious in Asia.

The 2025 Sustainable Travel Survey by digital travel platform Agoda found that 86% of Filipino travelers prioritize sustainability when making travel decisions, higher than the 68% average for all Asian travelers. India (82%), Taiwan (80%), Malaysia (80%), and Vietnam (77%) followed closely behind.

The survey, which included over 6,000 respondents across 11 Asian markets, highlights the growing importance of sustainable travel, with a rising interest in authentic and meaningful tourism as well as off-peak travel to reduce environmental impact.

Filipino travelers, in particular, are driven by the desire to support local economies, with 25% of respondents saying they aim to contribute to the communities they visit.

Additionally, 18% of Filipinos prefer to travel during off-peak seasons to avoid overcrowding, while 17% choose accommodations with sustainability certifications. Another 19% pack reusable items such as water bottles and shopping bags to minimize waste.

Michael Hwang, Agoda's Country Director for the Philippines, praised the efforts of Filipino travelers, stating, "It’s inspiring to see Filipino travelers actively making choices that leave a positive impact on the destinations they visit."

Agoda’s Eco Deals Program, which offers discounts on eco-friendly accommodations, supports these sustainable travel efforts. For each booking, the platform donates $1 to WWF conservation projects aimed at protecting wildlife and habitats across Asia.
