The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday said it has arrested three Vietnamese nationals in Cavite for allegedly performing cosmetic procedures without acquiring the required medical license in the country.
CIDG identified the nabbed Vietnamese nationals as Dr. Julie Nguyen, Dr. Luna Pham, and Dr. Ryan Truong, who allegedly posed as doctors and carried out procedures including stem cell injections, hair regrowth treatments, body sculpting, bio-stimulation collagen therapy, and other dermal treatments in Imus, Cavite.
CIDG chief PBGen. Nicolas Torree III said the foreigners failed to present the required medical licenses and permits to dispense medical products, operate a medical facility, or practice medicine in the Philippines.
“The illegal practice of medicine poses a serious threat to public health, and CIDG will continue to go after individuals who engage in these unlawful activities,” he noted
Authorities confiscated numerous boxes containing various medicines, medical and cosmetic products, and related devices from the foreign suspects.
Also seized from the suspects were notebooks documenting medical procedures, prescription medications, and receipts issued to clients.
The arrested suspects were charged before the National Prosecution with violation of RA 2382, or The Medical Act of 1959, for acts constituting the practice of medicine without proper licenses.
“This operation is a warning to all criminals, local or foreign, that the CIDG is unyielding and steadfast in catching all of you to prevent and solve crimes,” said Torre, as he urged the public to report similar illegal practice of medicine and other criminal activities to the authorities.
