Philippine National Police-Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) acting director, PCOL Elmer Ragay, has been placed on administrative relief from his post, according to a radio report.
PNP Chief General Rommel Marbil ordered the directive, pending the investigation on the abduction of a Chinese student in Taguig City, who was later rescued in Parañaque City.
The incident has raised several questions about the rescue efforts and the investigation itself.
One of the main issues is that it was not the PNP-AKG that rescued the victim, and no suspects have yet been arrested.
The student was kidnapped on 20 February and rescued on the evening of Tuesday, 25 February.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said on Wednesday, 26 February, that the kidnapping was allegedly linked to a syndicate previously involved with the operations of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO).
He also confirmed that the victim’s driver was found murdered in a separate vehicle.
Authorities have identified one suspect, Wang Dan Yu, who is a Chinese fugitive wanted for several serious crimes, including murder, car theft, and kidnapping for ransom.
