On a momentous evening brimming with optimism, Phase 3 of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli (PBBM) Project was officially launched, marking another milestone in the revitalization of the historic waterway.

And, amid the celebration of progress, one name stood out as the true driving force behind this transformation: First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

On Thursday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the First Lady led the inauguration of the Esplanade Phase 3, further cementing their administration’s commitment to restoring the Pasig River as a vibrant cultural and economic hub.

“Of course, the driving force behind all of this…and thank God for that…look at this, it’s beautiful…is the First Lady,” the President said.

With her deep passion for history and culture, Mrs. Marcos has been a staunch advocate for preserving the nation’s heritage while steering it toward modern development.

Her influence on the Pasig River revitalization project has ensured that each phase not only enhances the infrastructure but also honors the river’s historical significance.

A First Lady’s touch

Since the project’s inception, the First Lady’s vision has been clear: to breathe new life into the Pasig River while preserving its place in the nation’s history.

The latest phase of redevelopment introduces an esplanade featuring a gallery walk with local art and historical narratives, a pedestrian-friendly heritage corridor, and expanded public spaces — all aligned with her deep appreciation for culture.

“I promised the First Lady that I would be fully supportive of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli project,” the President said, underscoring their joint commitment to making the river a vibrant centerpiece of Metro Manila once again.

Under her watchful eye, the revitalized Pasig River is not just another government infrastructure project — it is a symbol of Filipino resilience, unity and progress.

Already, the newly opened spaces have become a popular destination, drawing students, families and social media influencers.

The esplanade has seamlessly blended modernity with history, turning it into a dynamic urban attraction.

A legacy in the making

Mrs. Marcos’ involvement extends beyond advocacy — her deep understanding of heritage preservation has shaped the initiative’s direction, ensuring that the project is not just about aesthetics but about rekindling the Filipino spirit.

The President himself acknowledged that her keen eye for cultural significance has made the redevelopment more than just an urban renewal project — it has become a movement to reclaim national pride.

“The First Lady, Liza, and I are keeping an eye on the progress of this vital project,” the President affirmed.

“I am certain that her interest in history and culture has enriched this initiative, ensuring that the Pasig River becomes integral to our collective identity,” he added.

As the nation looks ahead, the First Lady’s imprint on the Pasig River Urban Development Project serves as a testament to the Marcos administration’s dedication to blending history with progress.

More than just a revitalized river, this initiative is shaping up to be a lasting legacy — one that future generations will cherish.

At its heart is the unwavering vision of the First Lady, ensuring that the Pasig River will remain not just a landmark, but a living symbol of Filipino heritage and pride.
